Japanese KitKat are amazing! So many flavors to choose from. Back in the Netherlands, we are lucky if we can pick between three flavors. My backpack was filled with sixteen different flavors to try when I got home from Japan. Could have taken more flavors with me but at some point, you must stop yourself from going overboard. The Sixteen I took with me was just a small percentage of the 300 limited-edition seasonal and regional KitKat produced in Japan since 2000. I judged them on flavor to find my favorite Japanese KitKat. I will start the test with the first eight flavors I brought home.
In random order:
At the end of my trip, I found this Uji Matcha flavor. Totally different from the standard green tea one. You can clearly taste the Green tea, too bad though that it’s a bit too sweet. If they just toned the sweetness down slightly I think this one would have been way more balanced. All in all, love it.
The moment you open the package you already smell melon. Delicious! Tastes like a Galia melon. On the downside, the melon flavor remains in our mouth far too long. Personally, I don’t like that. Still liked it a lot.
For everyone that loves dark chocolate this one is there for you! It’s like the regular one but with dark chocolate instead. Love it!
Chocolat and strawberries the only thing missing is whipped cream. Too bad that the flavor isn’t as good as you might expect. The moment you open the package you smell strawberry but more like the artificial variety. Too bad that continues into the flavor. Did like the slightly sour taste. Should you try it? Yes. For me, however, just this one time.
I was afraid the raspberry version would suffer from the same artificial flavor as strawberry. I was wrong! Smells and tastes like raspberries, not too sweet and slightly sour. So much better than the strawberry.
KitKat Green Tea, definitely taste like tea and is spot-on sweetness level. Delicious! Didn’t expect to like it this much. For sure one of favorite flavors.
A good start because of the dark chocolate used. I liked the nuts and cranberries on top of the bar. Too bad the cranberry flavor wasn’t more pronounced. A good attempt but could have been so much more. Would buy it again, however.
A strange one that has to be used with a toaster oven. I don’t own one so I placed them under the grill in the oven. Started off well. Got brown and everything, then melted away. Good flavor, but nothing special. Maybe if you use a real toaster oven, it works out better and tastes better too.
